Han Hae-na is a high school teacher with a family secret that has sabotaged any chance of romance. Hae-na, played by Park Gyu-young, has no trouble meeting men or making them fall in love with her. Things only become problematic when she refuses to kiss them. Eventually, even the most loyal suitors look for love elsewhere. Hae-na is out of excuses, but awkward breakups are better than having to run away from the kissing scene.
She must avoid kissing because of a family curse. Every time a member of his family is kissed, he turns into a dog. The curse has complicated her love life because she is afraid to make this commitment. What are the chances a boyfriend will still want to date her once he sees her in dog form?
One evening, while having drinks with her fellow teachers, she accidentally and drunkenly kisses Jin Seo-won, a teacher she doesn’t like, played by Cha Eun-woo. Shocked by her mistake, she runs away and manages to return home before transforming into a white, fluffy dog. Once embraced and transformed, the curse requires her to wake up human at 6 a.m. every day, then turn back into a dog at midnight. If the curse is not lifted in 100 days, she will remain a dog. It is difficult to find true love with these limitations.
There is a way to break the curse, but it involves kissing the person she kissed again, but this time in dog form. What if he hates dogs? Or maybe he likes cats. Hae-na can’t convince Seo-won to share a meal with her, let alone drink to the point where he wouldn’t mind kissing a dog.
A good day to be a dog is a fun fairy tale about finding someone capable of loving without reservations. There are a lot of funny lines in the first episode and perhaps the best one might be the response given by young Hae-na who asked about the “mutt” in her house. Unmoved, she replies: “It’s not a dog, it’s my uncle.” Apparently he kissed someone too. As funny as this cotton candy drama is, it also shows how terrifying it can be to turn into a little dog. Going home to people who recognize you and can help you could be very dangerous.
Park Gyu-young created an effervescent character in Hae-na, a warm-hearted teacher who is liked by everyone she knows, especially fellow teacher Bo-gyeom, played by Lee Hyun-wook. Naturally, she sometimes gets a little manic about having her secret exposed. Cha plays the handsome math teacher that many students at school have a crush on. Cha is well suited to the princely role of this fairy tale, that of the professor who must embrace the cursed creature and return it to its human form. But his own fears will make this kiss less likely. As in all romances, lovers must overcome preconceptions and imperfections to find lasting love. Since this is a fantasy romance, these imperfections are supernatural. If all else fails, if Ha-nae fails to kiss Seo-won again, at least she will turn into a very cute dog.
